![]() North and Central America The Romantics called the United States of America the Land of Gold. To the Orient, it was Gold Mountain, to the Europeans, the Land of Plenty. This is North America, a place of imagination and riches, the Emerald City, the huge continent Walt Disney miniaturized to the delight of all. Its diversity in time is celebrated in the existence of many a frontier town, from the Yukon to El Paso and beyond. It is a land made by and for explorers. Travel the Erie Canal, the Pony Express route to Santa Fe, or get your kicks on Route 66. In Canada the Canadian National Railway takes you through the high Rockies. Paddle the lakes and rivers of the Coureurs de Bois in Eastern Canada. Ride the High Sierra with your pack horse trailing behind. Sip lazy margaritas in the warm Tampico, Mexico sun, or chart the Hawaiian islands and the Washington/British Columbia coast in the shadow of Captain Cook. In this land where everything is plentiful, even history, you can make your own adventure. Ski at the topmost resorts of Vale, Oregon, and Whistler, British Columbia, home of the 2010 Olympics. Palm Beach is fabulous in winter. Of course, Death Valley is also stunning! Dog-sled races run through Klondike country in the Yukon in the early spring. You can décolletage at the famous showhouses of Las Vegas, Nevada or take in the lights of New York City in the middle of the night. For relaxation head for the sun of California or Florida. |
